All-new Design of D8000

The name DC is derived from the musical term "Da Capo," meaning to return to the beginning of a musical piece. Seven years have passed since its launch, and the old model "D8000 Pro Edition," which has shipped over 2000 units domestically and internationally, has been completely redesigned from scratch, developing a new flagship headphone. The driver unit's diaphragm has been revisited from the manufacturing technology, and the proprietary technology "AFDS: Air Film Damping System*" has been redesigned in terms of hole diameter, pitch, and pattern of the punching metal. Furthermore, by removing the magnet in front of the driver, the open rate has increased by approximately 70% compared to the old model. The earpads have been changed to be 1.5 times thicker than before, increasing the volume of the sound space. In addition to maintaining the traditional open and voluminous low range and delicate high range, each sound has become more precise, realizing a vast sound stage.

Moreover, due to the changes in the above design, the body has achieved a weight reduction of approximately 100g, and by adopting a special Japanese paper material, it offers a comfortable fit with a focus on comfort without a sense of enclosure.

Equipped with Advanced "AFDS: Air Film Damping System"

Traditional planar magnetic driver units had the issue of the diaphragm contacting the structure in the low range where the diaphragm's amplitude becomes larger, necessitating an increase in the reproducible low-frequency range of the driver unit. With the old model D8000, this problem was overcome by the proprietary technology "AFDS," which controls diaphragm movement using air viscosity, allowing the reproducible low-frequency range to be lowered. This solved the issue of low sound reproduction, a weakness of planar magnetic types. This can be said to be a technological reinvention of planar magnetic types.

Furthermore, with the D8000 DC Pro Edition, this "AFDS" has been further advanced, and the hole diameter, pitch, and pattern of the punching metal used have been redesigned. Also, a different pattern of punching metal is used in front and back of the diaphragm. As a result, combined with breathable earpads, a low range with a sense of volume and openness is realized. The ultra-lightweight film diaphragm is formed by etching an extremely thin aluminum foil. As a result, the dynamic structure unique to planar magnetic types, which attaches the coil's lead wire to the diaphragm, is no longer necessary, reducing the vibrating system's weight to about 1/3. The pursuit of theoretical correctness has resulted in delicate high-frequency reproduction that was previously unattainable.

Aluminum-Magnesium Alloy Precision Machined Housing

To establish AFDS, extremely high precision is required compared to general driver units. High rigidity is also necessary to prevent unnecessary resonance and strongly support the driver. Therefore, the aluminum-magnesium alloy machined housing is cut with extremely high precision, and hard alumite processing is applied.

Structure with Higher Front Opening Rate of Driver

In the conventional D8000, the front magnet was the cause of generating subtle peaks and dips. In the D8000 DC Pro Edition, by removing this, the front opening rate has increased by approximately 70%, resulting in improved high-frequency reproducibility, allowing for more precise reproduction of each sound.

Newly Developed Open-type Earpads Using Special Japanese Paper

While closed types are common, even headphones called open types often enclose the inside of the earpads, extending the reproducible low-frequency range to characteristics that the driver unit itself cannot originally reproduce. However, to express the original natural wide and high-quality low range of the sound source, the driver unit must have the ability to reproduce down to the low range, and therefore, there is a need to use earpads with low enclosure and breathability. However, many traditional planar magnetic types and general dynamic types fall short in the low range with low enclosure earpads.

D8000 DC Pro In the Edition, AFDS allows for the extension of the low-frequency reproduction range, enabling sufficient low-frequency reproduction even with low-sealing earpads using only the driver unit's capabilities. The earpads that significantly influence this sound quality are our specially developed product, using Japanese paper with a smooth touch and durability as the surface material and a foam body with excellent breathability. Furthermore, in DC, by increasing the thickness of these earpads to 1.5 times the usual, the volume of the sound space has increased, resulting in an expanded sound field and a smoother range of human voice. Additionally, the same materials are used for the headband, achieving high durability and resistance to humidity.

In-House Production Pursuing Precision

The D8000 DC Pro Edition is manufactured at our headquarters in Kawasaki. The precision of product assembly is greatly influenced by the precision of the components and the precision of the tools that assist in assembly. To allow for fine adjustments during assembly with minimal component precision deviations, we have internalized the design and manufacturing of production tools.

Moreover, we have developed production machines, such as vibration plate forming machines and measuring instruments like vibration plate tension meters, as proprietary products.

To truly create good products, it is necessary to engage in material processing ourselves. The goodness of made in Japan lies in being able to obtain the cooperation of material manufacturers in such cases. By controlling everything from the source of components to the assembly of products, we are realizing high-quality products.

Difference Between D8000 DC and D8000 DC Pro Edition

The "D8000 DC Pro Edition" is a product adjusted to match human auditory characteristics, where the low range becomes easier to hear as the listening volume increases, while maintaining the delicate sound quality of the "D8000 DC." Please choose the appropriate sound quality according to your own listening volume.
